Do you have a manuscript that needs a professional review before you hand it over to the
publisher? Even best-selling authors will hire other authors to read through their book and make
concrete suggestions to improve sections, chapters, dialogue, scenes and structure. Now you
can make use of a professional writing coach to make your book great!
Here’s how it works. WordSmiths is a network of writing coaches who are graduates of the best
MFA writing programs – including the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. We developed BookLab to help
authors get their manuscript completed with the help, coaching and support of a published and
award winning author. We have worked with soldiers returning from Afghanistan, surgeons
showing the behind the scenes reality of hospitals and dozens of everyday people with a story to
tell. Our world class writing coaches who will get their manuscript finished in as little as two to
four months.
We also work with non-fiction authors who want a book to help build their platform. Pastors,
investment advisors, weight loss and exercise professionals, lawyers, counselors, anyone with a
system to improve people’s lives can put together a book, with the help of one of our coaches,
in a relatively short period of time which means more business for you.
With adjustments for manuscript style, content, and intent, our coaches will help you maximize
the effectiveness of the manuscript and includes such elements as:
Diagnosing and suggesting corrections for problems inherent in manuscript, including:
Imbalanced narrative
Underwritten matter
Chronic style or technical writing issues that detract from manuscript’s overall
effectiveness
Tracking the continuity of the narrative, including story, setting, and character traits, and
querying discrepancies
Making recommendations to correct structural and organizational imbalances across the
narrative
Responding to specific requests from publisher or author to suggest macro-level reshaping
including cutting excess text
They will also provide written review of your entire manuscript focusing on strengths,
weaknesses and concrete fixes. Likewise they will go through several pages of your
manuscript ‘fixing’ sentences, as well as explaining why these changes improve the manuscript.
These edits don’t specifically address grammar but rather teaches craft skills so you can produce
a polished piece of prose.
